Why Science?
SCIENCE AT FRANKLIN CLASSICAL SCHOOL
Franklin Classical School seeks to give students a depth of understanding of science from a classical, biblical perspective in order to prepare them for any path along which God leads them.
The goals of the science department will lead students to develop:
- Wisdom through the revelation of God’s nature and character.
- A conviction of truth as they see how science supports scripture.
- Wonder of the created order as they learn the intricacies of nature.
- Stewardship of creation as they come to appreciate it.
- High standards of ethics in their daily life.
- Skills in problem solving, deductive reasoning, and the basic steps of the scientific method.
- Appreciation for the men and women God uses to unfold scientific knowledge.
- Understanding of the role of science in the spread of the gospel.
Franklin Classical School offers the following courses:
5th and 6th grade are on a two-year rotation:
- Year 1- Astronomy and Zoology
- Year 2- Botany, Physics and Chemistry
Lower Division:
- Life Science
- Physical Science
Upper Division:
- Biology*
- Chemistry* (prerequisite: Algebra I)
- Physics (prerequisite: Algebra II)
- Anatomy and Physiology* (prerequisite: Biology and Chemistry)
- Health (Students earn a ½ health credit with this course.)
*Honors credit is available with additional requirements.
Almost all courses currently use the Exploring Creation curriculum series
by Apologia Ministries.
Additional Benefits:
- Each course includes hands-on learning by means of dissections, microscopy, or field work, as well as designing and/or executing experiments.
- A Science Fair with cash prizes and highly acclaimed judges is held during the fourth quarter of each year. Teachers are available to give inspiration and direction.
- Super Science and Science World, bi-monthly science publications by Scholastic
Book Company, are available to 5th – 10th graders.
