Admission FAQ

Grammar school classes (K-5) are ideally capped at 18; Lower Division (6-8) and Upper Division (9-12) classes vary based on number of students in elective classes. However, blocks cap at 36 (with cohorts of 12).

Homework should track around 10 minutes per grade. For example, first grade should have around 10 minutes, and sixth grade should have around one hour.

At FCS, 2 years of Latin are required to graduate. Latin is the root of all modern/romantic languages. It is also the language in which many historical documents and classic literature was written. Knowing Latin helps students with reading and writing and will prepare them for greater knowledge and understanding in their adult years.

Our students do not use technology to learn, with the exception of laptops for typing class. Student personal phones and smart watches are not allowed during school hours on campus. Teachers use little technology in their teaching practices.

We offer uniquely flexible schedules with which K-6th grade parents have the choice on Mondays to either enroll their children in optional, on-campus enrichment opportunities or to pursue their own educational goals at home. Grades 7-12 follow a collegiate model that allows parents to either build a full schedule of coursework or to choose a hybrid option to teach some subjects at home.

No, FCS is registered as a category 4 school. As such, we are unable to accept the Tennessee Education Freedom Scholarship.

For safety reasons, we are unable share specific security information publicly. We are happy to address your questions on a campus tour.

Security is a serious focus at FCS not taken lightly. Many investments and upgrades were conducted upon our move-in to our new campus in 2025 to ensure the highest measures possible were taken to protect students and faculty. Some of these measures include:

• Secure controlled-access entrances
• Shatterproof film surrounding windows
• Comprehensive camera coverage throughout the building and grounds
• Training a team of security personnel 
• Training all faculty and staff in emergency responses

To help protect student privacy, the school follows strong digital security practices and intentionally limits the use of student names, grades, and other identifying information on the website and social media platforms.

We use My Hot Lunchbox for daily hot lunch delivery. A different option is offered each day, and parents use the app to order. These orders must be placed before noon the day prior.

Our academic dean oversees and evaluates all faculty, with the appointment of department heads. 

Humanities is the core focus of a Franklin Classical School education, informing the interpretation and application of all other subjects. Each year, students in K-8th grades study the same humanities era. Our classically trained teachers weave the year’s humanities theme into all subjects. For example during the era of American Culture, grammar students draw portraits of George Washington during art, read Little House on the Prairie for literature, and learn American folk songs in music. Learning doesn’t take place in a silo; all topics are woven together to maximize student learning.
